fourth practicum session

This session was about teaching speaking .My objective was to make students able to successfully discuss and communicate through the Decision making activity.They were given a list of news paper headlines and asked to select any three of them which they find unsuitable for front page.Then they were asked to select five headlines which they consider a 'must'.In the end the students were asked to explain the reason of choosing those particular headlines.
I found my lesson just average.I feel i should have made it more interesting.I think i made some mistakes which i could have avoided
  • My objectives were quite general.I should use more specific terms terms.
  • I made the students stand up and read headlines which was not only senseless and boring but also useless as it was not a speaking but a reading activity
  • The activity was a little longer.I should have made it little shorter by reducing headlines
  • When my colleagues were taking class ,twice or thrice i indulged in conversation with my partner which was really very bad.

third practicum session

Our third practicum session was today (21.04.2009) .it was about teaching listening.The objective of the lesson was to successfully enhance students' listening skills through the given activities. In the pre-listening activity a game was played.all students were asked to make a circle .I whispered one sentence( I love onion capsicum pizza) in a student's ear and she repeated the same to the other student and thus the circle was completedTthe last student spoke loudly the sentence which she had heard (and it was-I love my India).
For while listening activity i had chosen reading for a specific purpose in which an audio clip was played and students were asked to answer some questions.as the clip was related to cooking i asked some students to tell some recipe and asked them what would happen if the recipe was not listened properly.It was the post listening activity.In the end of the class, students were given some study tips for developing attentive listening skills.
i enjoyed the lesson very much but there are some points which i should keep in mind
  • objectives shold be written on the board and revised and reviewed again
  • if the activities finish earlier,there should be some back up activity

second practicum session

Today was our Second Practicum Session.It was about teaching writing.I had decided to use chain-story activity in my lesson.The beginning of the lecture was quite good but as the lesson proceeded I had to encounter unexpected troubles.There were seven students in the class but only two were responding.After some efforts one more student responded but I could not get any information or response from the other four girls.I also realized that the activity which I had chosen was too complicated for them.I should have modified the chain story activity according to their level of understanding.The class did not go according to the lesson plan.Instead of a lesson on teaching writing ,it became a lesson on motivation which was not at all in my lesson plan.

my first practicun session(part 2)

i gave the students reading circle role sheets and role badges.i read a portion of the text and explained them the the meaning of the text. then as per there roles they were asked to act as discussion leader,summarizer ,word master and culture connector.the students responded very well.after the activity i explained them how they can use this method while doing group study.

my first practicum session

Today was our first practicum session.Our theme was Reading a Story.we selected H.H.Munro's The Open Window.there are five people in our group and we decided to work on the same story.our session was divided into several of activities
  • pre reading activities in which students were given a picture and asked to write a caption and story.
  • students were given some words (taken from the story) and were asked to write a description using them.
  • then we did cut-up activity in which students were given cuttings of the text and were asked to arrange in an order
  • framing sentences exercise
  • reading circle activity
i used reading circles activity in my class which is a during and post reading activity.my objectives were to
  • develop cooperative reading skills
  • interact with the text as a team
  • work on different aspects of the text and develop there own questions and views

my first blog

i had often heard about blogging .somewhere in my heart there was a wish also to create my own blog but i did not know how to do it.today my that wish has been fulfilled.this training is really going to change a lot of things.today those lines of ''tare zameen par''are roaming in my mind,''khul gaya aasmaan ka rasta dekho khul gaya,mil gaya kho gaya tha jo sitara mil gaya''.it seems as if new dimensions have opened .yesterday we made a poster.i was feeling so happy while making drawings.i felt as if my schooldays were back.we did some other tasks in which we were to interact with each other.i am little shy and reserve and find it difficult to mix with people but these activities made me very comfortable.today is second day of our training and i am looking forward to more tasks,lessons and activities
